Kore is one of the founding myths of mankind, tied to fertility and thereby to the future of the species. In the centre there is a young woman, with its load of transgression, of attraction, of danger; the “unspeakable girl”, as Agamben called her.
Kidnapped by Hades, Kore was carried to the underworld to be his bride, and became the Queen of the Underworld. Her mother Demetra descended over there to claim her, swearing and cursing Zeus that had allowed such atrocities. But hse will have to undergo to a condition: Kore would spend part of the year in the underworld and the other on Earth. Demetra then welcomed joyfully by flourishing the nature. From the myth the Eleusinian Mysteries were born, cradle of theatre.
The text of Lina Prosa resumes the myth into a dedicated singing “women who have never come back from the dark”, seeing in it an archetype of the bond of love that can become for women violence and burial, and marriage as a place you can also lose and perish. Doing a tribute to the ability of women to traverse the dark regions of the existence, from which not all of them are capable of rise again.
The work is divided into three parts:
- The preparations
Dialogue between mother and daughter about falling in love and marriage; the recommendations of the mother, the transgression and disobedience of the daughter, symptom of risk but also of vital dynamics of transformation.
- Mother's nightmare
Kidnapping of Demetra and Kore descent into hell in search of the daughter. Ascend with half of her.
- Procession of the heartfelts
Popular final parade.
And’ a journey born of the intimacy of a relationship mother – daughter, loving but harsh and full of contrasts, until the tragic outcome of the hiding of the young woman by the unknown man, with the mother who – lonely and desperate – goes looking for her.
Finally the scene opens and the whole community breaks in, with the different faces and stories that compose it, and that – heartfelts – take charge of the mystery and the pain of life, bringing with them, as relics, the tools of field work.
That of Lina Prosa is a writing that manages to deeply connect contemporaneity with classical tragedy; it is poetic and surprising, and returns the themes with deep metaphors and sudden differences. The scene is visionary, close ups and long fields alternates, dialogues, monologues and scenes of people.
The Popular Choir
The presentation of the show is preceded by a brief artistic residence of the company, aimed at building a popular choir that brings representatives of the local community into the show, with which to create mass scenes, after three laboratory meetings of about two hours each. Citizens of all ages can participate: young students of the High Schools (the path is well suited to school-work alternation projects), adults, over-60 of the University of the Three Ages.
